ART HAPPENS HERE! |
President's Corner - Summer 2008--Gone Fishin'
photo by Ira Yawnick Summer is here and many of us will be taking vacation breaks in the coming months; however, that doesn't mean that our art activities will be slowing down. Although we take a break from our general meetings during July and August, we still have a lot of events taking place during the summer at the Corona Art Association. Our members and volunteers are providing great art shows at the Art Gallery all summer long. We are exhibiting and performing at Dos Lagos each month from June through October and we have special events throughout the community all summer. We are especially pleased to be awarding our CAA Scholarships to area students in June and to be displaying and demonstrating art at the new Rosa Parks Elementary School on June 17. We are delighted to see the increased interest and positive response to the arts within our community. We have welcomed many new members into the Corona Art Association recently and we have made new friends who are interested in expanding the role of all the arts throughout the entire Inland Empire. Our mission statement speaks to advancing the arts within the community through arts education so we decided one of the best ways to address that goal is by expanding our scholarship program. In June our scholarship committee announced the names of the three high school students who received funds from the Maxine Piester Memorial Scholarship and the Otis Washington Scholarship to pursue additional art education. Our scholarship recipients will have art on display at the "Red, Hot, Cool" Summer Show starting June 19 at the Art House Gallery. We are very excited about the opportunity to bring more art into the schools and celebrate the creative work of young artists at all levels. We are delighted that the staff at Rosa Parks school invited us to participate in their Art Night and we hope to expand that program to more of the local schools. Please stop by our gallery to find out more about our organization. We welcome your participation and support and we would be happy to talk to you about the many ways you can help our community through the arts.
